Date of Conception: December 2002

Sonic 02 is the working name of a hack-in-progress of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was named such because the idea was made in 2002. Not much work was really done on it, save for a few palette edits and a change in the background music playlist. There was one version made available to the public with just one level's palette modified and a song changed.

Conception

All that really was done in early stages was some palette editing and a change of BGMs for the levels. For instance, Emerald Hill's music was changed to the two-player "Mystic Cave" music.

In January 2003, Samui messed around with the layout of the levels, and used Esrael's Sonic Editor to restore the lost levels. He didn't do too much with it, though. The project was soon forgotten about later on during the year.

Revival

In early 2004, Samui decided to once again start up on his hack. He made a site for it, with plans on what he was going to do. One of the major things he intended to edit was the actual music, changing the actual songs themselves. Samui messed around with Saxman's music editor, porting MIDIs to the Sonic 2 Beta ROM, but he didn't get too far with that.

Once again, this project was forgotten about early on during the year, and it wasn't until late in 2007 that Samui decided to start back up on it, wanting something else to do with my spare time. He found out about several other things that could be done with the ROM with the use of ASM, and is working on learning that.

Current Plans

Currently, Samui is using this hack for experimentation purposes, playing around with things as he learns them.
